First aid for babies (in English)

This is a 4 hour long class on first aid and response to emergent illness of babies, taught in English by healthcare professionals. In the class we will cover:

• Resuscitation
• Choking
• Safety measures to keep in mind when doing baby-led weaning
• Allergies, anaphylaxis and the use of epi-pens
• How to introduce allergens safely to babies
• Important signs of serious, life-threatening illness
• When you can stay home with a sick child vs. when you need to see a doctor quickly
• Fever and the use of anti-pyretic medicine
• Burns, wounds and other accidents

All participants will get a chance to practise on dolls and we will have time for questions and discussions.

Participants will receive a certificate issued by Bráðaskólinn.

For whom? The class is tailored to parents of babies and soon-to-be parents, as well as everyone else who regularly takes care of children, such as grandparents and babysitters.

Where? The class is taught in Fæðingarheimili Reykjavíkur (birth center) located in Hlíðarfótur 17, 102 Reykjavík.

Teachers are Guðrún Ingibjörg Þorgeirsdóttir, medical doctor, and Haukur Smári Hlynsson, anaesthetic nurse and first aid instructor.
